5. Charisma, not Calculation

He’s an eloquent speaker. He captures your imagination. He is positive and empassioned. Most of all, he’s a welcome change from Washington’s status quo.

4. Confidence

He’s defied Democratic party leaders. He’s standing up to the Clintons. He’s raising money from regular Americans on the internet. And all the while, he’s keeping pace with Hillary Clintons impressive fundraising dollars.

3. Intelligence.

America tried going with with its “gut” in 2004. We’ve been shown how that decision would turn out. Our economy is in shambles, our military is overstretched, and we’re more divided than ever.

I’m ready for someone new. America is ready for someone new. Anyone who’s seen Barack Obama speak has been shown how eloquent of a speaker he is, how well-thought out he has positioned himself. Mr. Obama’s demeanor has been nothing short of extraordinary.
2. No more wedge issues designed to divide and conquer us.

Stem cell research, Abortion, Gay marriage, Race, etc. They’re all issues designed by pollsters to create artificial divisions between us.

I’m ready to hear about the issues that ~actually matter~. I want real solutions to real problems. The next president will need to work with Congress to correct a number of Bush legacies:

  1. The economy - We need new industries, white collar jobs, blue collar jobs.
  2. The environment - Global Warming and other pollutants are just starting to wreak their havoc. If nothing is done in the next 8 yeas, these problems will be severly compounded.
  3. The war - Our position in the middle east is unacceptable. Congress is divided over it. The public is against it. Our budget can’t handle it. It’s time to end it.
  4. The deficit — I don’t want to be working for China when I’m in my 40s. Get spending under control. And, Do it now!

1. He represents a new brand of politics.

No more mudslinging. No more red state / blue state politics. More than ever, I want a President who unites us instead of divides us. Democracy involves both Democrats & Republicans, blue politics & red politics, Progressives & Conservatives. Compromise is the only way we are going to solve any of the numerous serious issues before us.

Barack Obama is the man to jump into the Oval Office, get his hands dirty, & begin solving our countries problems. Please, please, this Super Tuesday, think long, think hard, rethink you vote for the status quo, you’re choosing our leader for the next four years.

Things that are Awesome

Tuesday, February 5th, 2008

Hello !

Welcome to my very first post. I am the only twenty-something at third and cherry who is still in school. I have been putting off writing mt first blog all week. I finnally got the urge to write one while sitting in class right now, listening to a wonderful discussion on standard deviation.

So, lets get to the point of my very first blog. I have this amazing uncanny ability for picking things out that are awesome that nobody knows about. Some people are really good at math or sports. Me, my ability is the pursuit and capturing of awesomeness.

I started realizing this ability a couple of years ago when I started watching some television shows that were not really known yet. The two shows that I was into was Lost and The Office. Lost was this very creepy show that was unlike anything I had seen for a very long time. The creators of the show were great at creating the hook. The hook is the last five minutes of a show. Right when the show goes off, if your sitting there saying. “What just happened! I can’t wait for next week!” the hook is in strong effect. I started telling all my friends about the show and eventually they all became addicted.

My next finding of awesomeness was the show The Office. I started watching during their second episode, Diversity Day. The show possessed this humor that was so awkward that made your cringe in your seat and had you quoting lines for days after the show was over. Yet again, I started spreading the show among all friends and eventally The Office became this huge hit of a show. Basically, NBC owes me a lot of money.

So starting today, I will be using my ability to find the awesomeness in things that are not well known and bring them to you (if anyone ever reads this) the adoring public. Here are a few disclaimers before I announce the list. First, maybe you know of the items I’am about to gush over. If so, I apologize and the awesome finder is strong with you. Second, give these things and chance. They will grow on you and you will be thanking me later. On to the first ever awesome list…

1. Television: How I Met Your Mother, CBS, Mondays 8 P.M. est.

You probably have already heard of this show. It is already in its third season. The show does not get very good raitings. At the end of the first two seasons there was a good shot the show was going to be cancelled. We need to save this show. Let me give you a quick background: The year is 2030 and a Dad sits down his kids to tell the story of how he met their mother. The show is all flashbacks that tell the story of the main character and his friends in N.Y.C. Each actor on the show is remembarable. Especiall, Neil Patrick Harris (yes Doogie Howser) who plays Barney. Barney is the single player of the group. He has three of four catchphrases that you will slowly incorporate into your langauage without even realizing. Go back and rent Season 1 and 2 of the show and I promise you that you’ll be finished with it over a week or two. When you start knowing what slap bets are you’ll be officially hooked.

2. Website: www.thesixtyone.com

The best site for finding new music. Up and coming artists post their music onto the site. If you like their songs, you give it a bump, and more people will see the song. You get points that you are able to use on your favorite bands and if they become more popular you get more points. Simple enough, right? You can create your own playlists and play the songs over and over when you go back to the site. I have four of five new musicians that I absolutely crazy about now. This is a nice segaway for Things that are awesome number three…..

3. Band - Band of Horses

This is my favorite band that I have found of the site. I’ m not going to give you a background on the band I will just try to tell you what I think their sond is like. If this band was a mathematical equation it would be ….

Flaming Lips + Something you would find on the Garden State Soundtrack + a dash of county = Band of Horses.

They have a whole CD posted on the website. Start off with the song, Is there a Ghost. It is very simple lyrically but the tone and presence of the song stays with you.

That is it for the first awesome list. I will start posting more things from the awesome bank as they come in. This if if anyone ever reads this and tells me that they actually like things that I am into.
